Bill to make Route 66 a national historic trail gets unanimous House approval

Route 66 is inching closer to becoming the nation’s 20th National Historic Trail after unanimous U.S. House approval this week.

If designated, the 2,400-mile length of Route 66 would become a protected region of the U.S. and a section of the National Trails System, which is administered by the National Park Service. Other popular national trails include the Trail of Tears, the Lewis and Clark Trail, the Oregon Trail and the Santa Fe Trail.
