China | Poverty alleviation measures for surrounding communities part of plan for new Giant Panda NP

In a bid to help lift residents who currently live in the park area out of poverty, as well as promoting the park itself, a number of organisations, including the Sichuan branch of Bank of China, the Sichuan Forestry Department, the local branch of the China Red Cross Society and the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, joined 19 Sichuan counties in signing up to various cooperation schemes on Tuesday, Xinhua reports.

The organisations will work with the aforementioned counties to explore new anti-poverty methods, such as supporting tourism and local industries, using the area's rich source of tourism.
