Editorial | Supreme Court needs to revisit case on USNPS jurisdiction over watercraft use in Alaska

News-Miner opinion: The case of John Sturgeon versus several federal officials suffered a setback last week when an appeals court again ruled that the National Park Service had the authority to block Mr. Sturgeon’s use of a hovercraft on a river in a national conservation unit in the Interior.

It’s a case that gets at the heart of Alaska’s often contentious relationship with the federal government, especially when it comes to matters of access to land and water. It is a fundamental question of control, of sovereignty, of who has it and who doesn’t.
