India: Revised rules for resorts inside Karnataka PAs rankle enviros
BENGALURU: A recent notification by the forest department that has revised guidelines for private resorts, institutions and other entities operating in revenue enclosures within wildlife sanctuaries and national parks, has irked environmentalists. They allege the order has diluted rules which will be detrimental to wildlife.
"As per the Karnataka's Wilderness Tourism Policy-2004 and subsequent government order, private resorts will not be permitted to operate within national parks or sanctuaries and their enclosures. However, the latest order dilutes this provision by allowing existing and recognized resorts," said an environmentalist.
