John Muir’s gravesite open to public for first time after deal struck with nearby residents

MARTINEZ — Nature lovers who want to pay tribute to John Muir, America’s most famous wilderness defender, will for the first time have access to his final resting place.

Fans of the Sierra Club founder, influential nature writer and protector of Yosemite Valley have had no authorized way to visit the burial site about a mile south of Muir’s home, even though the federal government has owned the site for 16 years.
