Land trust buys tract adjacent to Great Smoky Mountains NP for elk habitat

ASHEVILLE - Elk might have been getting a bad rap lately as intruders on private land, but the massive grazers now have more room of their own.

The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy, an Asheville-based land trust, has purchased 147 acres bordering the Great Smoky Mountains National Park that will serve as prime habitat for elk and other wildlife.
