NOAA completes long-awaited fisheries management plan for New England ocean waters

Roughly 15 years ago, or about three years into the tenure of a young Patriots quarterback named Tom Brady, the New England Fishery Management Council began work on its Omnibus Essential Fish Habitat Amendment 2.

This week, the council announced that NOAA Fisheries has approved all but two elements of its habitat amendment in a management decision that will have a sweeping impact on which areas of the region's fishery will remain open to fishing and which will be protected.
