Senate tax bill would keep historic preservation tax credit—but with a catch

The word “conservative” comes from the same linguistic root as “conserve,” which means to protect an environmentally or culturally important thing from harm or destruction, according to my online dictionary.

So there was a striking dissonance in last week’s House vote, championed by conservative Republicans, calling for a massive overhaul of the federal tax code that includes the elimination of an economic incentive that has prompted the renovation of Chicago’s Wrigley Building and thousands of other historic structures across the nation.
