Utah GOP representative puts forth bill to make newly shrunken Grand Staircase–Escalante a NP

Washington • A day after President Donald Trump shrunk two national monuments in Utah, Rep. Chris Stewart is introducing legislation to take one of the remaining protected areas and turn it into a national park.

Stewart, R-Utah, says he’s introducing legislation Tuesday to create what would be Utah’s sixth national park out of the original Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument: a 100,000 acre area that includes one of the more iconic scenery in the area that features anetwork of slickrock slot canyons draining to the Escalante River and the 130-foot-tall Escalante Natural Bridge.
