Work begins to convert former Army library into visitor center for Fort Monroe NMon

When tourists come to Fort Monroe’s new Visitor and Education Center, set to open next summer, they can expect to enjoy features such as a rooftop terrace overlooking the moat, a skylight and plenty of exhibit space to house a trove of archives and historic records.


And there will be plenty of public bathrooms, something Fort Monroe Authority officials say the former military compound — now that it’s a park — lacks.
